OH BOY DO I LOVE THIS GAME!!!! No but for real I really do love this game. It has it's issues story wise and gameplay wise, it is by no means a perfect game but man I can't deny I had a blast delivering packages one step at a time. If you bounced off of the first game I highly recommend giving this one a try if you think you’re interested in the story Kojima wants to tell. One of unity and building a community brick by fuckin brick and the struggles that comes with that monuments task. It’s crazy just how communal this single player game feels. I was alone but I never felt alone. Knowing that what I might leave behind or build will help someone keep on keeping on gave me a big ole stupid grin on my face. Helping people is awesome and this game builds on that feeling. That and I can't stop listening to the soundtrack lol. It's so good. As are the characters, the world and the story. Whenever someone talked in DS2 I was kickin my feet with a stupid grin on my face. Not gonna elaborate, I'd like you to know as little of the story and characters as possible.
if you want a video that pretty much sums up how I feel about DS1 & DS2 story and gameplay I'd reccomend this video only if you don't give a shit about spoilers for DS1 and even then he really only starts really spoiling the game about 30 minutes into the video but you have been warned because I could be wrong and he spoils it way earlier! Althought I really don't agree with him on the characters, I fucking love all of them imo. I love camp!!!! The guy that made the video? Not so much lol.
Not even a joke, was def addicted to this game for a bit. I’ve clocked over 150 hours as of August 5th, 2025 and have still been playing it on and off when I wanna decompress. If you’ve ever thought, “ew, why would I play an overpriced walking simulator”. YOU ARE GOING INTO IT WITH THE WRONG MINDSET. If you tried the first game and really didn’t like the gameplay I totally understand it’s not for everyone, nothing is. But if you have sentiment like that and you haven’t tried this you really need to try it before you dismiss this game. If you like artsy-ish movies, your politics are farther to the left, and you don’t need action in your games to enjoy them. I can guess you’ll probably like this series. Ya, series. DS1 and DS2, because at a certain point they play the exact same but DS2 just has general QOL improvements and controls a hair better. And while I have you here can I try to explain why I think this ISN’T a “walking simulator”. At the games core, yes, you are walking but the mechanics of the walking are the most fleshed out it can possibly be compared to other games that have been marked as a walking simulator. For example, Firewatch, I would consider that game a walking simulator. Is it a bad game? No, I don’t personally think so but I didn’t particularly find it interesting or moving so I was just pressing the W key and moving where the game wanted me to go. And that’s the “issue”, I didn’t find the story all that interesting or meaningful so the gameplay was me interacting with some stuff and moving forward. In Death Stranding the loop is planning a route, managing your inventory effectively so as to not overburden Sam, AND get there without breaking any of the cargo. All while you’re paying attention to where you’re walking so you don’t eat shit. You can hate the story of Death Stranding but you can enjoy the gameplay loop. It is near impossible to find the gameplay of Firewatch interesting if you don’t enjoy the story it’s telling, that is simply not the case with Death Stranding. That’s why I don’t feel as though it should be marked as a walking sim even though that’s LITERALLY what you’re doing in the game. If it’s a walking sim it’s the best one ever fuckin made with a wealth of interesting mechanics to enjoy.

the goat himself
I prob won't write in depth about DS1 specifically but just know that I enjoyed that one alot too and I'm sure you will too despite it's more glaring issues!:)
